Minnesota Iron Range - October 18

The Minnesota Iron Range refers to a number of iron-ore mining districts around Lake Superior, in the United States and Canada. Despite the word "range," the iron ranges are not mountain chains, but outcrops formations containing high percentages of iron. This seminar will look at the Vermilion Range, the Mesabi Range and Cuyuna Range. Natural ores and concentrates were produced from 1848 until the mid-1950s, when taconite was pelletized to become the major source of iron production.  The seminar will also discuss the labor movement on the Range to better the lives of the miners and also look at the makeup of immigrates who came to Minnesota for a better life.  Register by October 13.
