Spring Learn to Swim Lessons

April 3 – May 22 

Summer is right around the corner! Bring your kids in to the Brooklyn Center Community Center for Learn to Swim Lessons before it is time to hit the lakes. Spots are still available. Lessons start April 3rd, 2018. Registration is available online or at the Brooklyn Center Community Center.

An energizing fun way to be fit and active! Move your body to music from the motherland and learn invigorating routines featuring traditional and contemporary West African dance moves including Igbo dances, Azonto, Ndombolo and more. Instructor, Korma, grew up dancing in Nigeria and has performed and choreographed for over 10 years.

Local Author Series

Shadows of the Time… Minnesota’s Surviving Depots By Bill Schrankler

Enjoy an evening with a Minnesota author and light refreshments at the Crystal Community Center as part of the Local Author Series.

Wednesday, April 11, 7 – 8:30 pm


This book brings to life 168 of Minnesota’s remaining rail road depots. Bill will share entertaining, fact filled information gathered along with hundreds of photographs, maps and other images. Take a look at Minnesota railroad history through brief studies of the aging structures that range from opulent buildings to small wooden structures. Register by April 6.Book will be available for purchase at the special rate of $27.

Feet First - The Only Way I’m Leaving My House

Wednesday, April 18

Take a look at tips and techniques to help you stay in your home. Discover the common causes of having to leave your home and common sense hints, best practices, and resources to avoid pitfalls. The course is taught by Stephen Laliberte, a recognized speaker in the Twin Cities senior community and has taught hundreds of classes on valuing your possessions and downsizing. Stephen is owner of Liberty Holdings a group of companies that provides senior services including Odds & Ends Again consignment store, Sort Toss Pack senior moving services, and Odds & Ends Again Realty.

American Red Cross Lifeguarding

Looking for a great summer job that has flexibility and fun?  Brooklyn Center Community Center is offering American Red Cross Lifeguarding course April 20th-22nd.  Register online or in person at the Brooklyn Center Community Center. 
Precourse required: Swim 300 yrds continuously using free-style or breast strokes, tread water for 2 minutes, and swim 20 yrds, dive down 7-10 feet to retrieve brick, and return 20 yrds within 1 minute, 40 seconds.

Cancer has taken over heart disease as the leading cause of death in Minnesota and 21 other states. Learn what foods protect against cancer and builds strong bones. Also, learn what food trumps Alzheimer’s disease for people carrying the Alzheimer’s ApoE4 gene. Sample specific fruit which improves memory and the specific food most tied to longevity.  Register by April 17.

Learn about common health problems and solutions to these common problems. How each individual can take responsibility for their own health and preventive methods to improve overall health.
