Seal Coating - Street Maintenance

Beginning July 10, 2018

The City has contracted with Pearson Brothers, Inc. to apply a seal coating to the roadway (see maps). Pearson Brothers, Inc. will be applying emulsion oil (black tacky adhesive coating) to the roadway and then covering oil with rock chips. This type of seal coating protects the roadway from weathering, reduces the need for future maintenance and increases long-term pavement performance. This type of project is completed rather quickly and may impact traffic on the roadway segment for approximately 20 minutes.

The Contractor has tentatively scheduled the work to begin on Tuesday, July 10, 2018, (weather permitting) and it will take two days to complete. Once the seal coating application is completed, street sweeping will be performed to remove the excess rock chips that do not adhere to the pavement. The first sweeping will occur one to two days after the initial application. A second sweeping will occur about 30 days after the initial application. The seal coating can be driven on immediately after application of the rock chips and traffic disruption should be minimal.

Your patience and understanding of the inconveniences are greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, please contact Todd Berg at 763-585-7100 or tberg@ci.brooklyn-center.mn.us.
