One-100% homestead credit per married couple is allowed. If two properties are owned by a married couple, only one- 100% homestead credit is allowed. If special circumstances exist, please contact the Building & Community Standards Department directly.
What is a relative homestead?
The relative homestead classification allows a relative of the owner to file for the homestead credit. The relative homestead credit amount is the same as a regular homestead. However, if a relative homestead is obtained, you will not be allowed to file for the Minnesota property tax refund or a Minnesota renters rebate.
Do all owners need to be present to file for a homestead?
No. The homestead application only requires the signature of one owner, except for a relative homestead application, which requires all owners and the relative occupants to be present.
