Brooklyn Center is a member of the Hennepin Recycling Group (HRG), along with the cities of Crystal and New Hope. The HRG and the City of Brooklyn Park have a joint powers agreement for the administration of their recycling and waste management programs. The recycling administration office is located at Brooklyn Park Operations and Maintenance.
Hennepin Recycling Group (HRG)
cities provide service to all single family separate/entry households and apartment buildings with eight or less units. All larger apartment/multifamily buildings are required to provide recycling services for their residents by using a private contractor.
Recycling Service Fee
Each residential household is charged a monthly utility fee to support the Recycling/Waste Management Program and is collected through the
. The program includes curbside collection of recyclables, the yard waste drop-off site, special materials drop-off days, and all public information and education activities. The fee is set by council or board action and may be re-evaluated and adjusted as costs and revenues require.
Recyclables are picked up every other week at the curb, the day of your garbage pickup. Garbage and recycling pickup in the City of Brooklyn Center generally occurs on Thursdays in the west side and Fridays on the east side.

Curbside Collection Cart
The program provides every household with a recycling cart. A damaged or lost cart will be replaced at no charge. Carts are available in three sizes, 35, 64, and 96 gallon capacity. To request an additional cart or have a cart replaced, please call (763) 493-8006.
If you have trouble getting your cart to the curb due to a temporary or permanent disability then you may request walk up service by calling (763)-493-8006.
Yardwaste, Brush and Tree Limbs Disposal
The yard waste site in Maple Grove opens April 1. Residents may drop-off tree limbs up to 10 inches in diameter. There is no charge for residents showing proper identification at the gate. The site is funded through your recycling fee on your utility bill. The site also accepts grass clippings, leaves, and garden materials. Bags must be emptied and removed from the site.

Drive northwest on County Rd. 81 past Osseo to County Rd. 121/Fernbrook. Turn left across railroad tracks to 101st Avenue North. Turn right and follow 101st about one block to the site entrance.
